Coffee Break #28: “Quip Flip”
Hero Retorts: Quip and Contrast.
Plus, this week marks the return of our heroes in training from the first storyline. Gelantinus recently appeared in Frankenstein Superstar’s webcomic crossover, too!
And last we saw Uberboy, he suffered a touch of x-ray dismay.
So what’s worse, Heroites? Classic cornball insults or currently overused toss-away punchlines?
Personally I love a good corny one-liner. They may not always sound so casual, but can you imagine papers?
Headline- ‘Like, Whatever dude’
Tag lines- Superman quoted as saying just before he destroys giant robot.
Afterwards, the Man of Steel reportedly shrugged and declared ‘S’nothing, innit?’
I’m pretty sure even Lois Lane couldn’t get a Pulitzer for writing up that.
It bugs me how lines like that have becomes PUNCHLINES, too, by lazy writers.
I thought you killed off Gelantinus…but forgot you left yourself a backdoor for brining him back in the future
It was too cruel to kill him… and too “dark” to make the Hero Business responsible for his death. So… yup, Gelatinus Lives! His “origin” is also on the cover of issue #1!
Hey, there’s nothing wrong with a well timed quip… but that quip needs to be polysyllabic… hipsters need not apply.
Of course, we all know Spider-Man’s the king of quips.
Ha!! Nice touch having him inspecting his fingernails with gloves on. Thanks to Parker, that’s the only body part he can x-ray anymore.
As for Uberboy’s lesson… whatever! If a villain is stupid enough to monologue, then just attack them while they’re shooting their mouth off.
Of Coarse There is a school……Marketing Genius..Also We have yet to see Uberman himself….Seen his toy though
