Coffee Break #5: Miss Taken Identity
OK, some of these jokes are deliciously insider-y to comic book fans. This is one of them. For the past 20-some years, comic book fans have seen their fair share of reboots and re-reboots. Each of these “reboots” is attributed to a cosmic crisis or time ripple. In truth, the creators either can’t keep the history straight, or ignore the past in an attempt to reboot a property yet again.
So this week’s comic gives us a familiar looking character suffering through yet another identity crisis. Just imagine what a Public Relations Manager would go through trying to keep some of these bios straight!

Hey did you hear that batman really is superman? Wait they changed it now, Superman is the Flash, but really behind the mask of the new Superman/ Flash is Batman. Crap they changed the story once more. It turns out that the Green Lantern is the Joker all along and that Batman is Jokers father. I’m sure the next hero they redo will be awesome. I hear that when they redo Spiderman he gets to shoot laser beams form his eyes and the webs come form his butt. By the way did anyone see the pilot episode of DC’s new cartoon “Young Justice” It reminds me of Teen Titans but it has a mix of the Justice League (2001-2006) cartoon feel to it. It’s worth a look. Anyway grate comic see you next week.
its great comic, not grate comic
…or is it?

I think all comic book franchises (especially the ones that already have words like “the amazing” or “the incredible” in front of the hero’s/heroes’ names) should have spinoffs with “the Ridiculous”, “the Ludicrous”, “the Absurd” or some such in front of the name!
Published by the same studios, drawn by the same artists, but altered and written by absurdist comedians and random weirdos with sufficient work ethic and productivity 😉
BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!
Good one, and so timely..
I can think of an unnamed JLA writer who would benefit from reading this.
I bet s/he would benefit from having a name too though.. It’s hard to get anywhere in life without a moniker of some sort! 😛
Somebody is familiar with Wondergirl(the original)!
Lots of comments on the reference to the joke, so I’ll be the one to say, nice work with Morgan’s expression in the last panel.
I bet Amerigirl and Donna Troy have lunch together all the time.
“Am I Greek now? I feel vaguely Greek.” Awesome! I literally LOL’d.
HA! It’s Donna Troy’s Distant Cousin!
LOVE this one Bill. It’s funny, cuz it true. Love the starry outfit too.
Plus, the new look is totally hawt — and tests through the roof with the ‘over 40, still living at home’ demographic. I’m talking ‘Xena Warrior Princess’ and ‘Jem’ numbers here. The merchandising alone makes the ROI very attractive. Give the writers a bonus and send Morgan a fruit basket.
Looking back at it, Donna, and Amerigirl are kind of like The Doctor from Doctor Who, They always regenerate into something new.
ha ha ha, love it! 🙂
So she’s Donna Troy. Got it.
I thought the main reason for reboots/retcons were that the writers inevitably write themselves into a corner over time and have to “delete” certain aspects or even start from scratch to cover that? 😉
