Coffee Break #50: Metaphysically Speaking
Well, we’re back! And Season Two starts with a little metaphysical fun!
First the bad news: Thanks to everyone for hanging in there while I rebuilt the site from an unexpected crash. It only took 4 web experts and two weeks! (yikes) Hopefully, we are glitch-free from this point on!
Now for the good news: My art has evolved a lot since first starting the comic, and I was really looking to kick things up a notch in season two! You’ll notice some mild design tweaks to some of the characters. But more importantly, you’ll see some richer backgrounds to really give our characters a unique sense of “place”!
I’ve always wanted to give the series the look of an animated cartoon, and my new coloring process helps bring that home. It also gives a real style to The Hero Business office!
While on hiatus between seasons one and two, I’ve been working hard on making season two even better! You can check out more of the new look in the revised Media Room here at Hero Business Central!
Come back next week for more metaphysical hi-hinx with Deus X Machina. And then we’re kicking off season two in earnest. Here’s a tease: The Hero Business is heading to Comic Con!
YAY! I don’t often comment on webcomics (this may be my first time to do so here), but I had to say welcome back! I was quite amused by the first panel, hehe. I’m happy to learn that I can once again look forward to weekly installments of The Hero Business! It was like a surprise gift that made my Friday even better! (I forgot your update schedule – is it every Friday?)
Also, while I’m already commenting, I’ll add that Deus has a cool outfit. And in the last panel he seems uncertain or taken aback with regards to the redecorating, heh.
Also also, I think you’ve succeeded in giving your webcomic the look of an animated cartoon. Your artistic style is one of the things I enjoy about The Hero Business!
Hey, thanks for the kind comments! Deus is somewhat inspired by Barnabas Collins from DARK SHADOWS. ; ) Glad you like the new art style as well!
Glad to have you back up and running! And hey, it can’t get any more metaphysical than Joe Leahy narrating sarcastically and all the characters take notice.
That’s what makes Deus X Machina so fun to use.
Glad to see the HB back!
Welcome back 🙂
Also I like Parker’s new skin colour, it suits her
Yes, she was always envisioned with South American roots, but a lot of people didn’t notice her skin shading was always a bit darker. Her name is Parker Del Muerto, after all! I adjusted her skin tone so it’s more clear. Bravado is also a bit more tan these days. ; )
Yay! New HB!
You know, I didn’t notice it until reading that joke but nicely done on the side panels! Great use of space showing us some of the lesser used or forgotten characters
Thanks! It’s the new background for the site. There’s a few little jokes sprinkled in there, too!
