Cry, Malefactor p18
Double page bonus comic this week!
I think the last page needs one of these.
I just didn’t have the heart to make you guys wait a week between pages 18 and 19. And, this brings our epic third storyline, “Cry, Malefactor!”, to a close. It’s also the half-way point for what I consider “season one” of The Hero Business!
As I’ve previously mentioned, I like to plant little clues along the way to reward observant readers. Demonatrix has been previously mentioned in “The All-New, All-Different Bravado” as well as earlier in this very story arc. Interesting that Parker’s mom has got some history with our cast, hmm?
And, of course, this reveal was set up earlier in this storyline as well when Malefactor interviewed at Infernal Enterprises.
And, in “Orientation,” Louie’s dialogue set up the Infernal Enterprises connection. It pays to read and reread here at The Hero Business! ; )
Our next storyline is titled “Frenemy Mine” and it focuses on Morgan and Glamazon’s unique relationship. In the meantime, there’s some new coffee breaks to enjoy!
Hope you guys are enjoying the comics and the storylines…. and if you are, spread a little word-of-mouth marketing! ; )

and a gratuitous *Bum bum bummmmmmmmmmm*
thanks!
WOW. Did not see this one coming. Nice touch with the link to the drama button. Looks like our lady in red hasn’t aged a day. Only one woman could voice her: Julianna Margulies.
good choice! 🙂
Yet Again, Shown up by “eoraptor” Buuuut
“HOLY BUM BUM BUUUUUM Nocturnowl!”
Also, “You Know You’re a HB Fanboy/girl, If you remember Demonatrix from “The All New Bravado” 😀
Bravo!
And it’s only taken two years to find out who Parker’s “bona-fide super-villain” parent is…
Parker’s story is the long-term story arc of “season one”, so we have some bits of that in each storyline with a definite conclusion in mind. But each storyline is a complete story that spotlights a different character… plus, there’s the coffee break gags… so I try and give a little “something for everyone”… Hopefully, you’re having fun along the way and will be satisfied with the reveals as they happen! 🙂
And here I was thinking they were referencing Parker’s dad the whole time.
I am sad that I originally assumed it was Parker’s dad… not her mom… ooops
I LOVE that people, assumed it was her dad…. I dropped gender-less clues for a reason…. hoping for maximum shock value….
So, should we be keeping an eye out for the people in the other pictures on Demonatrix’s desk? One looks like a younger Parker, and there’s a guy with her- a brother perhaps?
Hang on, wait, weren’t Demonatrix and Malefactor an item? This cast is getting practically incestuous…
All I will say is…. it’s good that you are paying attention. ; )
I too was wondering who else was in the picture…and then realized the whole giant laser innuendo came back to hit me, and I didn’t even notice! Job Well Done
This strip was just pulled off perfectly. I mean, I did the whole ‘bum bum buuuuuum’ thing, out loud, myself when I saw the reveal. And *then* I read the artist comment and the Drama Button!
awesome, thanks! I worked hard on these two pages… like those comic book epilogues of old, with the awesome reveals and villains in shadow…. and I really wanted the tilted view on the last page, like the slanted villains’ lairs on the 60s BATMAN TV show.
Yeah, you gotta love the “evil camera angle”
Ooooooo, you sneaky monkey! ^_^ Was wondering about Malefactor’s new business opportunity and now things are really gonna pick up in future issues.
Great storyline so far. Cannot wait for next issue.
Mr. Q
Wow. Is it sad that my brain automatically added in the “BUM BUM BUMMMMM!” when I got to the bonus page?
Ohohoho, I think stuff just got even more interesting! (Still loving every second of The Hero Business, it’s some of the classiest stuff out there, Webcomic-wise in my humble opinion).
I think it would be amusing if Parker’s father was just a likeable guy, it could explain why it’s so easy for her to get along with everyone. We all become our parents, the question is, what do you get from them that makes your mom or dad, but not?
Demonatrix kind looks like the a more sexualized Scarlett Witch.
This is getting interesting. After all, Parker is doing a superb double agent role. I don’t think anyone has realized anything about her yet. How come super-villains are always better at keeping their personal lives separate from their villain lives to where no one realizes they have kids, until that child randomly shows up.
I like to think it’s because the writer wants to create more suspense, that and for some reason the villains a traditionally better written than the heroes.
I think *DC* villains are better written than the heroes, Marvel gives their heroes more love, and shafts the villains (see spider man’s bag of animal foes).
I used to joke that I wanted a comic where Image created the world, Marvel created the heroes, DC created the villains, and Dark Horse did the art…
I didn’t think a more sexualized Scarlet Witch was possible 0.o
Man that button has been in the right place once again…
so…. is that guy next to parker her brother or her dad or what
All I’ll say is… good eye! ; )
Cripes, I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to add this! I also had a voice idea for Primstone: David Spade doing his “snooty receptionist” character from Saturday Night Live.
