Baltimore Comic-Con Commissions
Just got back from the Baltimore Comic-Con. Overall, the show went really well! Β My booth-neighbor was Charles Dowd – a super-swell talented guy ho does his own webcomic, Lilith Dark. Do yourself a favor and check it out!
Per usual, I knocked out a few commissions…. here’s this show’s haul…. mostly taken with my iPad camera…
“Proxy”: It’s Wendy Harris rockin’ it as Stephanie Brown’s go-to gal Friday…. on their last case (sniff).
“Firebomb”:Β This one is Firebomb, from the “Sentinels” series, by Rich Bernatovech. This one was a lot of fun, until my booth neighbor spilled coffee all over the page! I think we rescued it in time.
“Marvel Girl”: It’s Jean Grey, psi-teen supreme!
Jesse Quick, super-speedster!
Here’s “The Crow”, who I had to figure out how to 1. modernize and 2. convert to my style. I just imagined what he would look like if he teamed up with Scooby Doo.
This one was a little weird– a book full of Alfred E. Newman sketches! I tried to bring the funny… with Alfred as Robin and Batman wearing a derivation of the “I’m With Stupid” shirt.
A commission for a friend, from Baltimore Comic-Con. It’s U-Go Girl and Doop from X-Force.
Finally, an unsold piece. A little meta-textual goodbye from Donna Troy. (She’ll be back!)
Thanks to everyone who came out! It was great to connect to fans both new and old.
Next up: ComiCONN. It’s only a one day show, so if you’d like to be assured a commission ($20), drop me an e-mail. See you there!
Thanks for the link-love! Was great to meet you. Next time I’ll bring the shots. π
I like to pass on things from nice, talented people! π
NIcely done! You put a lot of style and work into your sketches for a great price.
Thanks! I try to put a lot into ’em!
LOVE the Marvel Girl commission! I might have to get one of those this coming Saturday. See you at ComiConn, Bill!
That Proxy is perfect! I’m going to miss that character.
I’m also glad to hear that you were able to rescue the Firebomb sketch. I was talking to you when that happened (I’m the girl who handed you the wad of paper towels), and my heart just dropped. It’s one of the worst risks of working at conventions.
Thanks, Johanna! The Proxy piece was one of my favs.
And OMG THANK YOU for getting those towels. The guys in the booth next to me – that SPILLED the coffee – brought ONE towel. So your generous towel rescue saved the day! I can’t thank you enough — you’re a true super-heroine to my rescue! π
Oh, pshaw. You’re welcome. I felt bad just walking away, and you guys were busy enough trying to deal with it all. Next time I see you at a con let’s have more conversation without crisis. π
Thanks again Bill. And just so your readers know, I’m not the one that spilled the coffee! Glad you could save the piece. π That Alfred E. Newman turned out great too!
