“Bad For Business” Alternate Cover
I had a difficult time landing on a proper cover homage for the sixth storyline. Ultimately, I think last week’s JLA cover was more dynamic.
But my heart kept going back to the classic betrayal story in all of comic-dom, The New Teen Titans’ “Judas Contract.” The image for the cover to Tales of the Teen Titans Annual #3 kept swirling around in my head. And that scene more or less plays out in our season one finale! Take a look at the original:
As a lifelong George Pérez fanboy, I had to make this one happen!
And for anyone who supported the Season One Kickstarter, you’ll be happy to know the book has just been sent to press! I’ll be sharing a few bits from that in the coming weeks!
So what do you think, Heroites? Which cover works better for our sixth storyline?
I believe Perez would be flattered by this, both for the result and the intent.
that would make my day! 😀
Love…that…issue!
me too!
Thanks for putting in the originals to compare- as I’d never read either title nor remember seeing them. Between the two, I like the first one better. In large part, I think, because of the dialogue translation, which came off pretty good (as usual, loved Malefactor’s line). Of course, the fact that I never read nor cared about Teen Titans, let alone, followed along at the time of this pivotal moment means I’m missing whatever connection might be made from outside the cover alone.
Which still works, just take my opinion as being based solely on the original and translated covers side by side.
I think the JLA one is more dynamic, and more opportunity for characters to come through in dialogue. The ToTT one is a personal fav due to its original content, but it’s a moodier piece (I do like how Demonatrix breaks the pension though!)
Very nice choice of homage given the two storylines are similar.
Rare that the homage is much better than the original- I hate that 80s outfits on some of them! Thank goodness the 90s gave them better clothing.
Better clothes MAYBE but nothing touches George’s skill during this era. Really amazing stuff! 😀
Awesome! Perez would be proud of this homage!
I’d like to think so!
