Coffee Break #45: “Blast Scoff!”
Looks like we also just learned who won “Who Wants To Be A Sidekick?”
Just wait until they get back to the Owl Cave! Fowler #4 (or is it 5?) is in for it now.
So this whole “cooly walking away from explosions” has become a “thing”, but I was thinking back to exactly when it started. I want to say it was Robert Rodriguez’ “El Mariachi” (1992) / “Desperado” (1995). Anyone have an earlier sighting of the trend?
Terminator 1?
Star Wars, where Luke blows up the Death Star; but that would be a fly away….
GREAT, Now my brain spams are going off into side trails instead of finishing up my work day… THANKS A LOT! LOL!!!
lol… see? we’re thought-provoking, too! ; )
I have a feeling it originated in 80’s action films. Maybe a few Schwarzenegger pictures…..I know this is definitely one of the few objects of Jay Sherman’s ire.
So who’s the Iron Man spoof? And which Fowler is Nocturnowl on, #5?
My “Iron Man” is Blue Steel (seen just a few weeks ago when the crew went to see Blue Steel 3). And I believe this is Fowler #5. Or is it #6? ; )
Arnold’s done it a few times, I believe there were a few in Commando and Predator that fit that image…
Might even be inspired by the napalm scene in Apocolypse Now…
I was thinking of the exploding helicopter/motorbike scene in Wolverine: Origins. It’s brilliant – slow-mo, flying debris, the full works.
It’s also literally the only thing I remember about that film.
Doctor Who ‘The Greatest Show in the Galaxy’ 1988
There should really be some kind of Sidekick Academy, sponsored by THB of course, to teach them these vital lessons!
who says… there isn’t? ; D
